Thank Heavens for Grandma!

Lucky for us broken camera people we have a Grandma who takes pictures. So I want to post some of the pictures we got from Grandma. The first one is of Grandma Schoenwald and "Booga Baby." "Booga Baby" is Nathan's nickname that his siblings have given him. They all four call him, "Booga" or "Booga Baby." "Where it came from, I can't say, but I bet they have come a long, long, way." -Dr. Seuss (How I feel about a lot of things my children do and say.)

Star Wars

Enoch has been interested in Robots lately. So when we arrived in Oregon Grandma asked if he had seen any of the original Star Wars movies. We have created a monster. : ) They ask to watch a Star Wars movie every day and Enoch has bought a little R2D2. So for a recent activity the children created their own R2D2's out of marshmallows.
We took about 4 pictures but there was always someone with a weird look on their face. So we chose this one. Sorry Enoch. :)

We are moving to OR!

Yes, the rumors are true.
Jen's parent's house isn't selling very quickly, so we will go "babysit" the house for a while (could be 2 weeks, could be 6 months, who knows). We suspect we'll be there until I graduate or, better yet, get a steady income and we can buy our own. However, if the house sells, all the better :)

Contact us for the address and phone.

FYI, this is the 4th time since we were married that we are packing everything into a storage and moving away for a while--oh the joys of life, eh?

Math at our house...

So we were sitting around the table eating oatmeal this morning and Eli was showing me some patterns in the number chart we have under the plastic cover (1-100 in rows of 10). We started looking at how that pattern happens by adding 0 (zero) to the 1's place and a 1 to the 10's place. He picked that up and noticed the same patterns down the other columns.

Enoch came over and showed that he can make other patterns by adding a 0 onto the end of a number. It was great fun.

Well, we went back to eating and Enoch said, "Dad, can Math go to the circus?"

"Um, sure... what do you mean?"

"Math has lots of tricks and I thought it could do them at the circus."

You know, for being 5 and 7, those two are pretty observant and are willing to expand what they know. Yes, I am probably biased, but I think they are pretty clever.

If you don't believe in math tricks (or that math is fun), perhaps this will convert you

PS... some from Wymount may have noticed this same post... well, that is the danger when you have more than one blog to post to. I'll try to keep redundancy to a minimum. :)

Oh, the Places You'll Go!

Here we are putting our family news out there for you all to read.
At this time, Bart is still in grad-school finishing up his PhD. Jen is recovering from giving birth to Nathanael Joshua Palmer (8lb 4oz; 21.5"; 8:04am on 31 July 2007), both mom and baby are doing really well.

Enoch is turning 7 this November and is doing really well reading, playing, and helping his Mom. He loves to read "The Magic Treehouse" series
Elijah just turned 5 and is advancing in reading and telling some great stories.
Joel is almost 3.5 with the same size feet as Eli but built like a solid brick. Mentally, however, he really is "as quick as a cricket."
Naomi is increasing her vocabulary and communication every day. She knows she is the princess of the house and just loves everything from trains and bugs to babies and dresses.
Nathanael is really lazy for now ;) He is starting to pick up his head a little and has learned to sleep with the constant din in the house. But, since he was born at home, I suppose home will always be that much more special for all of us.

Our adventures will continue as we begin this new school year (Eli's 'first' and Daddy's 'last' :). Our hope is to let you know what we are up to for education and fun. Please leave your comments and let us know of you in return.

Oh, BTW, we are beginning to read some of the classic literature of the world. If you would like to join along, feel free :)
